How does Branfil communicate with parents/carers about first aid?
When a child requires first aid, staff record this information on Medical Tracker; which sends an e-mail directly to the parent/carer to make them aware. For head injuries or more serious injuries, parents/carers will be telephoned.
Can the school administer medication to my child?
If your child has been given a prescription but is well enough to be in school, school staff will administer medication. This medication must have a prescription label from a pharmacist with your child’s name on it. Parents/carers must complete a form to give school staff permission to administer this medication. Parents/carers will be notified on Medical Tracker once this has been administered. Medication must be dropped off and picked up by an adult at the start and end of the school day.
Further guidance for parents/carers on how to know if your child is well enough to be in school can be found on our Attendance page.
I’m worried about my child’s health, who can I go to for support?
Our school nurse does regular sessions for parents/carers. If you would like to book a session, please contact the office who can book you an appointment. Parents/ carers can also speak to our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), Mrs Metcalfe, who may be able to signpost you to suitable support (01708 225186 / office@branfil.havering.sch.uk ). Alternatively, parents/carers can go to their GP.
My child has a health condition, how does the school manage their needs?
The school works closely with parents/carers, medical professionals and Havering’s Children and Adults with Disabilities Team (CAD) to ensure children’s health and medical needs are met. This can include accessing specific training, developing Health Care Plans, delivering specific provision to make learning accessible and creating risk assessments. More detailed information can be found in our policy below.
My child has asthma, how does the school manage their needs?
Children who have asthma and require an asthma pump in school, require an Asthma Care Plan. Parents/carers should get an Asthma Care Plan from their GP. Asthma plans should be reviewed by your GP every 6-12 months.
For more information, please see the policy below or contact our SENCo, Mrs Metcalfe (01708 225186, office@branfil.havering.sch.uk).
My child has an allergy, how does the school manage their needs?
The school works closely with the school nurse to write Health Care Plans (HCP) for children who require them. An HCP identifies a child’s medical needs and the measures required to meet them. These are reviewed at least annually, or sooner when there is a change required.
The school gathers information about children’s medical needs on entry. Parents/carers should contact the school to share medical information that may be relevant to keep their child safe and meet their medical needs if these develop during their time at Branfil.
Hot meals at Branfil are provided by Havering Catering Services, who produce a full dietary and allergen breakdown (https://haveringcatering.co.uk/). sQuid, the system we use to order school dinners, is able to lock out foods with a set allergen preventing children from being able to order food which could contain their allergen. We also use an allergy card system for children who are school dinners and packed lunches so all adults are aware of their needs.
For more information, please see the policy below or contact our SENCo, Mrs Metcalfe (01708 225186, office@branfil.havering.sch.uk).
